Gone With The Butterflies Print
The fourth piece in the “Of My Heart” series. Inspired by my love of butterflies/fairies as a child (and still to this day), and my family calling me “little butterfly” and “fairy child” among many other nicknames while growing up. I’ve always been awe inspired by their presence and enjoyed visiting the butterfly preserves near my house just to watch them in their gracefulness. Butterflies as a whole are threatened by habitat loss affecting their feeding, reproduction, and resting areas during their migration season. Two of the butterflies I chose to showcase have a special place in my heart, and have significance along my journey to where I am today. The Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly and the Karner Blue Butterfly. Both of which are endangered species. The Palos Verdes butterfly is native to Los Angeles CA and was recently rediscovered in 1994 after having once thought to be extinct in the 1980’s. As for the Karner Blue Butterfly it is native to the upper Midwest and East Coast areas of the USA. They are struggling to find Wild Lupine plants for their larvae to feed on. Due to extensive development in those regions causing huge amounts of habitat loss where Wild Lupine plants flourish. My hope for this painting is to show the magic and need for these amazing little creatures, and bring awareness about the need to coexist with them. In order to help preserve what is left of them, their wild spaces, and all that they have to offer to humanity. 🦋🌹
