When I look at Yosemite, I see more than its majestic landscapes and waterfalls—I see the spirit of the wildlife, the legacy of its sacred lands, and the energy that makes this place so special. Yosemite is a space for healing, growth, and spiritual awakening, where every rock, stream, and plant holds traces of the species that inhabit it. The preservation of Yosemite is vital, as its landscapes, wildlife, and humanity are deeply interconnected.
In The Spirit of Yosemite, I aimed to highlight this connection by embedding the spirits of endangered species (Sierra Nevada Red Fox, Bighorn Sheep, Sierra Nevada Yellow-Legged Frog, etc.) within the rock formations of the iconic Upper Falls. From afar, it may appear as the grand Yosemite Falls, but closer inspection reveals hidden life within its crevasses. Yosemite teaches us to look beneath the surface—both of its landscape and within ourselves—to find deeper truths.
For over a decade, I’ve used my art to protect wildlife and advocate for our spiritual connection to nature. My hope for this painting is to raise awareness for preserving Yosemite in its entirety and continuing its legacy as a National Park.
